BLINDCRAFTER CONSUMER FINANCING AND CREDIT CARD PROGRAM

The BlindCrafter private label credit program increased our dealer business by enabling consumers to buy up to what they want or need, aiding in closing and developing repeat sales. To assist the BlindCrafter dealer network in growing their sales, Comfortex launched BlindCrafter Credit Card program along with a 12-month free financing promotion run through GE Consumer Finance. To promote this financing option to customers, Comfortex provided each BlindCrafter with a full complement of advertising materials, including: Poster, showroom signage, newspaper insert, flyer, direct mail card, ad slicks and logos. The average sale processed through the BlindCrafter Credit card is $1,898, while the average sale processed on a regular Visa or MasterCard during the same time period was only $415.

The patent pending Shangri-La® Ultra Sleek Hardware System combines elegance and functionality into the smallest, sleekest integrated head rail system in the industry. “WINDOWS TO PARADISE”

Comfortex recently concluded (December 15, 2005) an impactful nationwide promotional campaign which drove thousands of potential customers into Comfortex BlindCrafter Dealers and the to BlindCrafter.com Web site. One national contestant won a 4 day/3 night trip to the Atlantis Resort, Paradise Island Bahamas with this BlindCrafter Exclusive Advertising and Promotional program. Designed to create market differentiation and raise awareness of the Comfortex BlindCrafter Brand nationally, BlindCrafter dealers were provided with a complement of marketing materials to use. These included a ballot box with entry forms, poster, outdoor banner, showroom ceiling mobile, counter mat card, consumer brochure, sales rep buttons, shade wobblers, ad slicks, flyers, door hangers, mail cards and radio and television commercials. In addition, store personnel were provided with a comprehensive “Success Guide” detailing the step-by-step implementation of the promotion. Dealers who participated in the promotion were also eligible to win a trip also to the Atlantis Resort.

Corporately funded national shelter magazine advertising and Web advertising supported the promotion.

2005 DUETTE® DEALER DIRECT MAILER CAMPAIGN

In support of the 20th anniversary of Duette® honeycomb shades and to reinforce the brand’s leadership position, Hunter Douglas executed three direct mailers targeted to Gallery® and Priority dealers. All mailers contained reply cards that dealers could return to claim special gifts. The campaign was highly successful and had a 40-percent return rate.

  • The first mailer in February emphasized the TruePleat™ design and offered a leather business card holder as a gift.
  • The second mailer in the summer challenged dealers to put Duette shades to a cleaning test. The gift here, an umbrella, carried through the water-friendly theme.
  • The third in the fall emphasized the rich, refined Duette fabric offering with a journal as a gift.

2005 SILHOUETTE® SAMPLE BOOK MASTER KIT

The new 2005 Silhouette® Sample Book Master Kit is a new smaller and lighter sample book with a sophisticated, upscale design that encourages dealers to show the beauty of Silhouette shadings to their customers at the window.

Highlights include a 39-page photo book with room settings, features and benefits close ups and a before-and-after photo illustrating the transformational beauty of Silhouette® shadings. The book is organized by three easy steps that consumers take when they shop — first, the two-inch and three-inch vane comparison; second, fabric style comparison card followed by full-size working swatches of the fabric styles; third, lifting systems and application options. Tabs divide the different fabric styles and include quick reference specs. A hardware color guide is also included; and a Counterparts® card with a large removable Luminette® swatch show how to present Silhouette and Luminette as complementary applications.

2005 SILHOUETTE® WINDOW SHADINGS COLLECTION

The 2005 Silhouette® Window Shadings Collection includes three new fabrics — The Matisse Collection™ of colored sheers, Lumiere™ and Bon Jour™. Also new, the Palette™ fabric-covered headrail, refreshed color offerings reflecting 2005/2006 color trends for a total of 162 SKUs, a new arch/angle attachment method that dramatically reduces installation time, and an increased specialty shapes offering, including trapezoids, hexagons and octagons. The Matisse Collection™ is the first-ever fabric with colored sheer facings as well as colored vanes that dramatically enhance the décor of a room with a cascade of rich color. It is available in both the two- and three-inch vane sizes in six bold colors. The new Palette fabric-covered headrail is standard on The Matisse Collection. The Lumiere fabric features a chiffon-textured fabric vane with a semi-sheer opacity that expands opacity options for Silhouette shadings, previously only available in translucent and light-dimming fabric vanes. The Bon Jour fabric offers a horizontal linen-textured vane for a less formal, yet elegant look at the window. The new fabric-covered headrail option covers the headrail completely in the same color and fabric as the shadings vanes for a soft, integrated and custom look. It is available on all Silhouette shadings, excluding the Top-Down/Bottom-Up TiltAnywhere™ application.

ADVANTAGESM: AN INTERACTIVE WORKSHOP

AdvantageSM is a valuable half-day interactive workshop for dealers and designers offered in approximately 28 markets a year around the country, with 75 maximum attendees per program. Audience interaction drives the event, with attendees deciding which products or business issues they want to focus on. Wireless response keypads allow attendees to jump in and get involved in sessions, whether they’re answering a question or voting for topics they want covered. Hands-on opportunities offer insider tips to measuring, troubleshooting and incorporating best practices for a competitive advantage. To date, 1,500 attendees have been trained. Hunter Douglas dealers who participate in training see average sales increases of 20%.

BUILD AN AD + PRINT ON DEMAND TOOL

Launched for dealers last May on www.dealers.hunterdouglas.com, this tool allows Hunter Douglas dealers to create and customize their own ads (and postcards in connection with the Holiday campaign) for placement in their local publications. CERTIFIED PROFESSIONAL INSTALLERSM

The Hunter Douglas Professional Installer ProgramSM launched E-Learning, a new enhancement to its successful Certified Professional InstallerSM Program. Installers who have completed the three-day certification program can now review and update the training they received by going online. E-Learning modules use the same presentation visuals utilized in the certification training, so the format is familiar to them.

In the hands-on training, there is an overwhelming amount of material presented, so few installers can remember it all. E-Learning allows the installers to quickly review product-specific material on demand, prior to attempting a difficult installation, adjustment or repair. The modules are narrated and contain animation that displays the specific sequence of each procedure.

Most products covered in E-Learning are divided into three modules: Specifications and Measuring, Installation, and Adjustments and Repairs. Complex products have additional modules. There are currently thirty-four modules covering eight Hunter Douglas product categories, plus a short introduction module demonstrating how to navigate through a module.

The average module length is under eight minutes. The installer has the option of viewing the text of the narration so they can read along and/or print it for future use. They can review the entire module in an automatic linear presentation or go directly to specific slides by selecting a slide title, a thumbnail of the slide or by entering in a keyword they want to search for.

The Hunter Douglas products presented at the certification training have changed over the three years the
program has been in existence. The E-Learning modules cover all of the products presented, so installers
can train on products that were not presented at their training program. The new online learning initiative
provides them with an ongoing benefit, as new E-Learning modules are being added every year.

Shop-at-Home and In-Store kits include updated sample decks, redesigned to create the look of a collection in one coordinated statement. Each deck features new, inspirational photography, as well as all valance options and upgrades and real decorative tape swatches in the 2-inch EverWood deck. The In-Store Merchandising Display is made of sturdy construction and its upscale design reflects its new premium positioning. Boasting a smaller footprint, it holds all four decks compactly for maximum use of retail space. The updated Satisfaction Guarantee logo is prominently displayed. GALLERY CERTIFIED TRAINER PROGRAM

The Gallery Certified Trainer (GCT) is a bi-annual four-day training for Gallery dealers to learn how to build their business using this formula: The Systems x The People = The Results. The idea is that by implementing proper business practices and combining it with the right staff, business will increase. Participants earn the title “Gallery Certified Trainer” and leave empowered to train their own staff on customer management/interaction, business marketing, and sales skills. Over 1,000 attendees have participated in the GCT program.

HUNTER DOUGLAS CUSTOM SHUTTER COLLECTION THREE-SIDED POP DISPLAY

Showing the entire Hunter Douglas Custom Shutter Collection with working product samples, this display has a smaller footprint than most retail displays — only 2.44 square feet. It is also quick and easy to assemble, taking only 30 minutes to display all three products. Two optional features provide flexibility: a spinning base and a wall-hanging kit. Making these
features optional reduces the cost of the standard display for dealers who don’t want the extra features. This display is also more cost-effective than others. By selling just one order of NewStyle hybrid shutters for a 48"-by- 40" window, the dealer will have earned enough profit to cover his/her cost for the display. It also accommodates a wide range of options such as inside or outside mount shutters with any frame type, which gives dealers the flexibility to feature the shutter options that are the best sellers in their region. Over 300 displays have been placed in just one month.

LIGHT CAN CHANGE EVERYTHING™ NATIONAL TV COMMERCIALS

Hunter Douglas developed two 30-second TV commercials centered around the provocative and engaging “Light Can Change Everything™” theme. The commercials bridge the abstract presentation of Hunter Douglas products and their owners outside of the home with the reality of the light-transforming properties and beauty of these window fashions within the home, as the camera pulls back inside to reveal the products and homeowners residing in on-trend room settings. The sun is strong, allowing bright light to enter through the products — yet with the turn of the Luminette® Privacy Sheers wand and gentle pull on the Silhouette® window shadings control cord, the light becomes softened and diffused, creating a warm and relaxed mood throughout the room.

Both commercials launched the week of October 17, 2005 and ran for six consecutive weeks on the following networks: HGTV, A&E, Discovery Channel, HGTV, Lifetime, Food Network and Discovery Home & Leisure.

The “MoMA” print advertisement launched the new advertising campaign for Solar Control by Nysan Shading Systems, a division of Hunter Douglas Contract. It debuted in several trade publications including Architectural Record and Interior Design. The message of “Innovative Products Make Innovative Projects” was effectively communicated through the use of images from the solar control system installation in the Museum of Modern Art.

Hunter Douglas added two exciting new fabrics and three lifting system extensions to its proprietary 1 ¼-inch pleat size, which speaks to the trend for larger-scale window coverings. The new introductions have spurred double-digit growth in the 1 ¼-inch category.

New fabrics include a 1 ¼-inch Batiste Textured semi-opaque fabric, having the understated elegance of woven linen in 10 soft, natural colors. The New Home Collection Sample Book series now consists of two volumes of product portfolios that represent a full Hunter Douglas product offering exclusively for the new home buyer.* This collection will only be available through the builders that participate in the Hunter Douglas New Home Alliance program. The series is designed for the builder’s showroom or design center where new home buyers select their cabinets, appliances and countertops and now their window coverings.

The NewStyle™ Hybrid Shutter Sample Kit pulls together the Hunter Douglas Custom Shutter Collection for the first time and it is growing all three shutter products. It is now easier for dealers to sell and consumers to buy and understand the differences between all three shutter products in the collection. Easy to carry and use for both retail and shop-at-home
dealers, the NewStyle kit fits all marketing tools into one lightweight carrying case. A counter/wall display showcases the entire Hunter Douglas Custom Shutter Collection. Consumer brochures showing the entire collection with a comparison chart at the back. A DVD contains product information and training on selling the Custom Shutter Collection. A photo book showcases different options and the back of it guides the dealer through the sales process. The bag also contains pockets with working
clearance testers and product samples for easy demonstration. An actual working panel is also included as well as an extra working sample deck with removable samples. The kit has been so popular that after just four short months, Hunter Douglas is having to go back and produce almost double the amount of NewStyle kits produced initially.

PREMIERESSM SPOTLIGHT PRESENTATION

The largest Hunter Douglas training program, PremieresSM 2005 trained 12,301 dealers across North America last year. Under the 2005 theme “Great Performances,” participants partook in interactive training sessions using DVD and PowerPoint presentations with classic movie stars such as Marilyn Monroe and John Wayne spotlighting the new Hunter Douglas product lineup. Trivia questions pertaining to famous people that have used Hunter Douglas products were interspersed throughout the presentation. Displays were also put together in the front of the room highlighting new products and enhancements, as well as signs, sample book displays and marketing information. For 2006, the theme is “Survivor.” Set up to be a versatile training program customizable by the participating fabricators, the Premieres workshops generally ran for four to four-and-a-half hours, with class sizes ranging from 15 to 100 people. Those attending Premieres events have increased sales up to 30 percent over dealers that don’t participate in any training.

PROFESSIONAL CUSTOMER MANAGEMENT PROGRAM (PCMPSM)

The Professional Customer Management Program (PCMP) is a comprehensive training that includes many elements to support aligned Hunter Douglas window covering retailers in their effort to provide consumers with a thoroughly satisfying shopping experience. The PCMP includes these topics/trainings: Hiring and Employee Guide Selling System, New Employee Training Program, Customer Service Training, and Internet Customer Management Program Satisfaction Confirmation. The PCMP Selling System includes all details related to interaction with the consumer, and when executed properly, results in an amazing shopping experience. In development, testing, and face-to-face concept training for the last three years, the Selling System has been well received by Hunter Douglas Gallery dealers. The program will become available to all aligned Hunter Douglas dealers in its online format later this year. This program has been placed online in order for it to be accessible at any time. The program content is reinforced through the Gallery Certified Trainer program, Hunter Douglas Advantage program and Hunter Douglas Certified Professional Installer Program. Selling Hunter Douglas products is not the focus of the sales training. The training presents principles to sell any product, with Hunter Douglas products used as examples to illustrate how the selling principles are applied. Although the training is online, it is important to note that all learning styles are addressed: visual, auditory and kinesthetic. Participants read, listen and do a variety of point/click practice exercises and compose scripts/responses.
